Setup for a 2-story barn?

Post by rc.alex » Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:58 pm

Hello,

I am new to architectural accoustics so please forgive me. I am trying to research the proper accoustical solution to this situation, but not sure what to search or where to start.

I am trying to "permanently" wire sound into a 35' x 45' two-story barn with concrete floor.

At one end is a 12' wide barn door and above the door there is a 15' x 15' opening in the second floor so that people in the second floor can see a band or whatever is going on below.

Last year we had a band play for a charity concert but they brought a trailer load of their own equipment. We'd like to wire it somewhat permanently so that we could simply hook up an iPod or laptop when desired.

I'm not sure how to properly go about this so that the sound is reproduced in all areas of the building on both floors.

There is a 24" deep by 24" high x 12' wide framed "speaker box" covered in cloth hung in the 2nd floor opening above the barn door (at the height of the 2nd floor joists) and angling down about 15 degrees. Would it be sufficient to set a pair of SP5 or SP2 in that box angled slightly down to the first floor? Or is there a better way to go about this without going way over the SP2 budget?

Thanks!
Alex

I see this post is pretty old. not much traffic on the AA side of things. Did you get this figured out?
