New to the VSX26

Post by IainB » Tue Feb 07, 2017 4:11 pm

A weeks worth of reading (and still ongoing) I WILL get my head around the VSX26 although I do think I have massively over-complicated my ''simple' DJ rig (simple being either 2/4/6 or 8 speakers and 1/2/3 amps depending on venue and requirements (all using an Ecler FAP 30))
I would like to thank Marty and SemperFiSound with the reading material that I now have on the computer ;-)
Oh for the days when I could just roll out a set of HiSys4s unfortunately those days are now long gone and Im running a hotch potch of different cabs and amps :-(
I will be back a) when this is making more sense and b) when I have completed Martys Voltage Gain checks
Thanks for the info... enlightening

Slowly slowly starting to make some sense, now Ive got the unit in front of me and Im not reading and reading and brain exploding :o
'Think' I can now make a basic 4 speaker crossover, which is what I bought it for though will try it out on the cheaper speakers than the proper rig.
I have one question, restoring to default only gives me a blank sheet to work from, I thought it had various templates available (the unit is S/H so the previous owner may well have done something). Would re-installing the 0.6 software fix this?

So.... re-installing 0.6 hasnt restored any baselines and I still have the 'dodgy' settings left by the last user.
To get me up and running all I need is the following if Im understanding this correctly (starting from a blank canvas)
Im using this as a stereo input, bi amp (1 to tops, 1 to subs).
Set inputs and outputs (that was relatively easy)
Set crossover points 40-100 100-20000 (using the suggested baselines Ive found in various posts from Marty) my tops can go to 20000 though may well drop this to 18 when im at the venue.
Set limiter so that I dont fry my speakers.
EQ at the venue using Autograph.
Thats it isnt it? Just want to get this up and running to give me some confidence.

Or am I missing some steps somewhere?

Hell-o sir; The unit will be blank from factory. the presets are on this site. there is a good generic sp2 setting here on the forum that would probally be a good baseline to start and adjust from. I have found that a lot of time the factory preset will need tweeking out in the field. Not major changes but small ones. Good luck

Thanks - that makes sense, I had it in my head that a reset would restore generic baseline settings, but at least I know now!

Can anyone do a quick limiter check for me please?
600w continuous, 8 ohm, x40 and 0.775 sensitivity
Im getting 11.7563 which seems way too high?
First time working through these, the ones that have already been calculated on here I get the same answers, just my actual real world one throws me somewhat

For 600 Watts Continuous @ 8 Ohms, RMS limiter should be set at +7 for any x40 amplifier
Mackie DL1608
2-QW2F
2-QW218
1-VSX48e
1-CS2000
3-CS4080 HZ
1-PV10 AT
2-SP1G
2-SP218
2-PV1600 Bi-Pack
2-PV3800

Ah ha.... Ive been doing all my calculations wrong!
This could explain why my system hasnt been sounding as I would expect.
Just re-run all my calcs and am now getting the correct figures, now to stick them all back in the VSX
