Feature Suggestion - limiter active

Post by SKYMAX » Fri Mar 01, 2013 1:29 am

It would be super great to know if the limiter has started to "engage" on the VSX - a lot like the DDT lights on AMPS and the FLS lights on graphic EQs.
I try to set quite "safe" settings on my VSX 26, but it would be nice to know if I am actually limiting the output or not. If I was, I would crank the compressor settings up to allow more output through.

Cheers;

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of limiting? It would be nice to see when they're hitting, sure, but don't hold your breath. I believe they stopped developing (ie making changes to) the VSX a number of years ago in choosing to focus on things like the FX series mixers, IPR amps, and Digitool (arguably the successor to the VSX).

This has been discussed and the decision was made (by Peavey personnel) not to have the lights indicate limiting - for whatever reason I cannot remember.

If you have ever heard a compressor "breathing" or "pumping" - that's what it would sound like, so as long as you are not hearing that, I wouldn't be too concerned.

So whats going on with the VSX Platform, is there a new development coming, any new software, connectivity to a PC, Iphone, Ipad, Android...updated functionality....anything...It sure would be nice if they would fine tune it, add a few tweeks, issue a new set of software. Whats the future hold for the VSX ???

I'm just guessing, but I would be surprised if there were any new VSX in the works. Well, at least the VSX as we know it. I would see one of two things happening:

1. A stripped down version of the Digitool Live that would come closer to the price point of the existing VSX but incorporate some of the features of the Digitool Live.

or

2. The VSX26 slowly fades to history and is replaced by the Digitool Live. To me that would be a shame as the expense of the Digitool would keep a lot of weekend warriors from stepping up to it's advanced processing.

But hey, I'm just guessing. My office isn't in Meridian and even if it was, the nameplate on the door wouldn't say "Hartley" on it. :D

Well yes my friends . . . . .

Wow I thought my thumb was not working - three times I typed the above and each had nospacesbetween.

A) That ship has sailed, that hen roosted, that shuttle seperated from its booster, that train left the station (with Elvis on it).

B) Many of you are sound providers and have more resources than week end warrior bands gaff-taping together 20+ year old sound systems. To be as best as you can be, you owe it to your self to look even beyond the Digitool Live. The Digitool MX 32 digital loudspeaker management system can give you a Stereo Four-way Front of House processor that provides X-Over, Equalizer, and Limiting functions as well and can also accommadate 4 Bi-amped monitor mixes with total control of all the important paramenters. Would you you like to seperate yourself from the average or less? The Digitool MX 32 could be your rocket ship.

Now if you can learn how to optimize the power of the MX-32 by learning how to make your own "In-Situ" measurements, you will have reached escape velocity.

And for those of us weekend warriors who can do "In-Situ measurements" with our trusty VSXs (26 for FOH, 48 for monitors), I guess we have achieved "kitchen arrest escape velocity."

You've got me curious Steve - have you learnt some tricky tricks with it? - spill the beans.

Peter,
Nothing epic. I am building my own presets with my amps, my unique QW cabinets and using the reference mic to ring out the monitors for VSX-48 presets in my "open space" backyard.

Doing it yourself brings a "closeness" to the system, personalizes it.

I am becoming "one" with my systems....
