HDH244T with SP218 VSX26 Settings

Post by craigbro63 » Sun Mar 11, 2012 2:15 pm

I''m running the following and looking for presets or settings for the VSX26:
Presently need settings for Bi-amp:
1 pair HDH244T full range powered with Bridged CS1000X
1 pair SP218 powered with CS4080 Stereo

Will eventually tri amp but no amp yet :( If I can get another CS1000X I plan to run the following if you can also supply settings:
CS1000X Stereo to the HDH244T Horns
CS1000X Bridged to the HDH244T Mids
CS4080 Sereo to the SP218

Thanks for the help!

Here are the settings you would want to use.

SP-218 Sub:
40 Hz L-R 24
120 Hz L-R 24
Level: +6 dB (this is to match the gain of the CS-1000 in bridge mode.
Limiter: +7 dB Threshold, 20:1 Ratio, 100 mS Attack, 1000 mS Release

Mid/High HDH-244T
120 Hz L-R 24
17,000 Bess 12
Level: 0 dB
Limiter: -0.5 dB Threshold, 20: 1 Ratio, 50 mS Attack, 500 mS Release

Note, the CS-1000 needs to be a 1000X if you are running at 4 Ohms, i.e. two 8 Ohm HDH-44T's in parallel.

Are the suggested settings assuming that the gain is at 100% ?

Those settings assume that the gain knobs of all the amplifiers are all turned up to "full-tilt-boogie"!

Regarding the suggested "GAIN" settings (+6db for 218 subs and 0 for 244T) is this set in the "DYNAMICS" menu? There are GAIN settings in several menus so not quite sure. Any explination for the different gain settings?
Thanks!

The Gain setting is done in the X-Over widow. You highlight the top of the "mountain" Icon to set the gain.

Dynamics is strictly for compression and limiting functions. Compression is obtain using a Ratio of 2:1 up to 9:1. Ratios above 10:1 are considered limiting. Max is 20:1.

OK...got things working but a question :)

When I hook up the VSX output to the CS1000X to 244T cabinets I get a loud hum. I am using a XLR(VSX) to TRS(CS1000x). I tried XLR to XLR amp input with the 2 jumpers=same result. I have a Ebtech Hum Eliminator (TRS) and can run the signal through this and eliminate the hum. So, maybe I need the transformer module for the CS1000X? Or can I just rewire the cable somehow? Must be a standard way instead of the Ebtech.
Thanks!

CS 1000x amps are input wired pin #3 hot, pin #2 negative, pin #1 ground. Peavey changed their new CS models to pin #2 hot, which is the industry standard. Generally all signal outs from crossovers are pin #2 hot. Hope this helps you in your trouble shooting.

Your problem is that a VSX-26/48 can NOT be run unbalanced. The CS-1000X will only be balanced if the accessory PL-2 transformer is plug into the appropriate 11-Pin socket.

Peavey no longer offers the PL-2 module, some stores may still have the PL-2, but they are getting harder and harder to find.

Without a PL-2, your only course would be to use a quality DI box to balance the input to the CS-1000X.

Thought that's what it was...Will look for a PL-2. Thanks!

Does the Autograph function only adjust EQ settings or does it also adjust other settings, i.e. crossover, dynamics, etc.?

Thanks!

I believe it will only cut frequencies as well, not boost them, and then if it doesn't detect an appreciable difference with what it tries to cut, it will return them to the original.
