VSX26 Presets Compatability w/VSX48

Post by Stringbender53 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 8:17 pm

I'm hoping someone here can give me a quick answer: can the factory presets intended for the VSX26 (specifically the one for QW4/QW218's) be downloaded and run successfully on the VSX48? I ask because I purchased a VSX26 intending to run stereo three way and have since decided to run an "aux feed" sub set-up with the center/mono main output of my Crest X-8 console. I'm assuming in order for this to work I'd need a minimum of three processor inputs that the VSX48 could provide. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You could use the mic input as a third input on your VSX 26....but you would have to use an inline attenuator to give something like a 20db pad...rout to output 4 via the matrix for Aux fed subs. Rout both input A & B stereo sub outputs via output 1....Should work.... :)

Brads suggestion will work. And to answer your original question, you can't load VSX26 presets into the VSX48 using the memstick slot. You can load it onto your VSX26 and then set the units side by side and manually enter the settings you see on the 26 into the 48. It isn't any fun, but can be done fairly simply. Note that there is no graphic e.q. on the 48.

Don't believe me. I'm just guessing.

G'Day Stringbender....another suggestion you could consider.....especially if you run left & right amp racks....
You may want to consider buying a second VSX26 instead of a 48. The advantage then is you send your left stereo out to your left VSX input 'A'...then via the matrix to 1-2-3 ouputs to your amps....do the same on the right side.....then send your Aux sub feed to your VSX input 'B' on each side...then out from #4 to your sub amps.....
You can simply download your Peavey presets via the USB port with a memstick & away you go. You can adjust your low pass for your Aux feed to suit via the screen or use the VSX editor & download with a memstick....works a treat for me....& in the unlikely event of a VSX malfunction, I have a back up VSX I could quickly have ready .....

Brad & Josjor:
Thanks gentlemen! I apologize for not getting back sooner, but I really appreciated your quick responses as it saved me buying a used VSX48 that was up on eBay. As I'd already bought two Rane AC-22B x-overs before I bought my QW mains setup and decided to go with a VSX26,I really didn't want to end up changing canoes in mid-stream again.
I was aware of the possibility of using the third mic input as Brad initially suggested, but the idea of having to pad it somehow as well as not being able to readily access the "Autograph" RTA feature without cable re-routing & other problems left me less than enthusiastic.
I also had a suspicion the VSX26's QW4/218 settings could be manually entered into the VSX48 using the method Josjor noted and then downloaded to a Memstick for backup. However,as I wanted other speaker configurations readily available on Memstick for downloading applications other than the QW4/218,this didn't seem very practical. And,as he mentioned and I'd forgotten, the VSX48 doesn't support the e.q.ing features either.
However,Brad's second suggestion was the bomb! Why it hadn't occurred to me I don't know(must have been one of my "can't see the forest for the trees" brain farts),but as I WILL be running left/right amp racks,it makes perfect sense. The rack setup per side will be two mono'd QSC PLX3402's @ 3400wrms/4 ohms each pushing one of two QW218's, two mono'd RMX1450's @ 1400wrms/4 ohms running the 15" pairs in two QW4's,and a single Crown Powertech II @ 320wrms/8 ohms stereo w/mono input split to each of the QW4's 44XT's. If I have a problem with one of the VSX26's or want to 1/2 the system, I should be able to revert to the factory QW4/218 3 way preset with a minimum of resetting and re-patching. Should work gangbusters.

Thanks DUDES- you rock!

With the amplifiers that you have you need to insure that each of thlem is calibrated to a 40X;s voltage gain (+32 dB).

Seaarch the forum for voltage gain. I can not upload it with a dial up connection.

What Marty is telling you is that the VSX cannot 'see' if the amps have different voltage gains. it doesn't matter so much exactly what your amp gains are, as long as they are ALL the same.
If your amp gains vary, then you must adjust the higher gain amps to match the amp with the lowest gain.
The Peavey CS & PV series amps are all 40x.

Yo,Brad & Marty!
Appreciate your pointing out the situation with voltage gain(s). I became aware of this while checking out the info on the VSX26 in this forum and subsequently downloaded and printed Marty's instructions on setting competitors amp gains properly. If I remember correctly, QSC shows both the PLX3402's and the RMX1450's gains as being 40X (32dB) in their amp literature with input sensitivities listed as 1.9Vrms @ 8 ohms & 1.7Vrms @ 4 ohms for the 3402's and 1.15Vrms @ 8/+3.4dBu for the 1450's (no 4 ohm value is listed). However, the older Crown Power-Tech II's have a three way internal switch for setting "input sensitivity" at either 0.775, 1.4V, or 26dB, so I'm figuring those should be set on the 1.4V and go from there. Anyhow, as I have Marty's instructions and a Fluke 115 DVOM, I'll be doing it the correct way as soon as I get everything assembled and ready for test runs.
Thanks so much for taking the time to post and your concern. If I have further questions or problems I'll definitely be getting back!

Best- Duck
