Impulse 1012 / SP-218 Triamp Settings?

Post by MrJoshua » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:34 am

I've basically been taking the SP-2/SP-218 triamp settings and doing some tweaking from there, but are there specific presets for the Impulse 1012 and SP-218 in a triamp configuration? I'm using QSC power amps - RMX-850 for the highs (200W per side at 8 ohms), RMX-2450 for the mids (500W per side at 8 ohms) and a PL236 for the lows (1300W per side at 4 ohms).

Any specific EQ and crossover settings I should be using different than the SP-2/SP-218 settings?

Thanks!

No, I do not believe there are any for the 1012. Other than where the x-over point should be between the horn and the 12", and the 12 and subs, I think you may be right on track.

For starters you can use an SP-2/SP-218 three-way preset to get you in a good seat in the ballpark, the components are essentially the same.

But right now you are only somewhere in the Zip code, as your amplifiers have different voltage gains that must be addressed before any preset can function as intended.

The 8-ohm output gain of the RMX-850 is published as 31.6X (30dB), while the RMX-2450 is published as 50X (34dB). The PL236 doesn't have a published gain but using the 4-Ohm power rating and input sensitivity (1300W and 1.07VRMS) and assuming my math is correct it should have a gain of 67X (36.5dB).

I'll want to double-check it with a multimeter to be sure, of course, but that should mean I can run the 850 with input attenuators wide open, the 2450 with input attenuation at -4dB and the PL236 at -6.5dB to achieve an even 30dB gain across all the amps, correct? That's slightly lower than the standard 40X Peavey gain but it should at least allow for an even response.

Thanks very much for the replies, and my apology for taking so long to follow up - it's been a busy few weeks.

...an even response...THAT is the goal.

Best of luck,
