Peavey VYPR VIP-1 Sound Issues

Post by RonnieJamesDio » Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:55 pm

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and read up on the stickies at the top as a beginner here. And I'd like to start off by saying that I've owned this amp for around 4 years, I loved this amp when I first purchased it and it worked great. It is a house amp so I rarely turn the volume up past 1 since its already pretty loud. I don't even mess with the presets at all really, just a few tone tweaks here and there.

About a year and a half ago I plugged my 1988 Washburn Force-ABT bass into it as I usually did, and the volume on the amp would skyrocket very loud and then immediately cut off completely after about 5-8 seconds. I played around with the bass thinking that could've been the issue since I couldn't even change pickup selection anymore, no sound would come out at all. I tried my 1988 Fender Stratocaster as well, this one was slightly different. Even now it only works on the neck pickup which it used to work on all pickups, if you attempt to switch pickups it cuts out and no sound comes from the amp at all. It works fine most of the time on the neck pickup, but even still it will cut out and go to a clean/dull sound sometimes. I also tried it on my 2015 Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 and it has the exact same problems as the Fender had; as a last resort I also replaced my Guitar Center 10 foot cable with a 6 foot Mogami Platinum cable, and still the issues persist. I took off the knobs and sprayed some CRC electronic cleaner in there as I read on another forum post, it freed the knobs like the day I purchased the amp which was a plus. I made sure it was dry and clean before turning it on and still nothing has been fixed. It's possible that I've missed something that could be simple but its definitely not any of my guitars since they work on my Crate amp just fine, but the only "bass amp" I have is the VIP-1. Does anybody have any suggested fixes? Thank you!
