Vypyr VIP 1 High-Pitched Squeal

On the 6505 and 6534 lead channels, with the pre gain around noon, post gain around 9:30, and master volume between 3 or 4, my Vypyr VIP 1 has a high-pitched squeal that makes the channel unusable at a decent volume. I have tried multiple cables, multiple outlets, and multiple guitars, all to no avail.

Is this a common issue or a defect in my amp?

What type of guitar are you using? I find the same when using hollow body guitars, but my solid body ones are OK.

Both guitars are solid body guitars with humbuckers

Most likely cause is microphonic pickups.
If they have covers tap the cover with a pick. You will hear the sound come through the amp as follows - tick tick = unpotted, dunk dunk = potted.
Unpotted (no wax) pickups will squeal with high gain.
If your pickups have no cover and are unpotted they will be less likely to squeal.
