Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Hey guys, I have this problem with my VIP2 amp.
Basically, I bought it 5 months ago, and it worked great. I even gigged with it and it worked flawlessly. But then around a month ago it suddenly started rebooting during band practice.
So I brought it home, updated the firmware, did the factory reset. Played around on it at home for a week or so, it worked without restarting.
Then I took it back to the place where we are practicing, and it started rebooting again. Tried factory reset again, but it doesn't really help.
So, the question is, what is happening to my amp?
Is it overheating? Cause I think it works at first when we start our practice, but after 40 minutes or so it reboots.
It can't be the fuse, right? Cause it wouldn't even work then.
Is this amp somehow sensitive to the electricity or whatever? We have different amps, PAs and other stuff taking electricity from the same line. But then again, every other piece of equipment works without hick-ups.
Another thing is, our place, where we do our rehearsals, is quite cold, it's around 10°C (or 50°F) at the moment. I did read about how original Vypyr models had problems with cold. Is this still the issue even with the VIP models?
Also, like I noted, it works fine at my home. Though I haven't played it on the same volume as on practices (cause playing it at volume 5 at home is quite ).

I get the same problem. I was in the middle of a show when the amp started to reboot itself. Talk about being ticked! I saved my default tone to the 1st channel now so if it does it again it will at least come back to my basic tone.
Any word fellow Peavey folks?

Good to know that I'm not the only one.
BTW, yesterday had a band practice and my amp had zero issues. This can be really random.

Re: Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Caveat: I've had my VIP2 for 4 days. I've used it everyday so far.
I have had this happen already as well. I have traced it to the power cord connection….it simply does't seat well. After a bit of vibration during play, I'm assuming, it loosens enough to cut power and then vibes right back to power on.
Both times, I reseated the cord, HARD because I was getting pissed at this point, and it's fine for the rest of the session. Happened right away on day one, and then on day 3, 40-45 minutes in.
Maybe I should only practice on even numbered days?

Oh god, if it's really that simple, i'm gonna feel like an idiotOldnewbie wrote:it simply does't seat well
I'll try to check on the next rehearsal tomorrow if it really is the connection.
Well, this really can be true, cause that cable does feel just a bit loose, and it would also explain why I have the problem when playing on volume 5+. Vibration. And our bass is also quite loud.. now that I think about it, last practice we didn't have anyone playing bass guitar.
Thanks, Oldnewbie! You may be right. I'll check it tomorrow.

Not sure if this will help or not, but if it is a loose power cable, wrap it in a couple layers of electrical tape. Make it fit a little more snug.
Honestly, my other thought was a bad outlet somewhere in your practice room or wherever, but this seems more likely.

I've been using my VIP 2 in gigs since I got it over 7 months ago and have never had this problem, but when I read the first post in the thread a few days ago, I was racking my brain trying to think what could cause this for someone.
If it turns out to be the power cable wiggling out from vibrations, this will be good info to have. I've always just plugged mine in without thinking about it, but from now on I don't think ever plug mine in at practice or performances without double checking

Re: Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Ok. So I got kinda sick last week, so I wasn't able to check if it's the cable or not. But yesterday I went there, played 3 hours straight with no problems, then on the 4th hour it rebooted. Checked if the cable was all the way in, and it was.
Next time I'm gonna try using different power cable, I'll bring my own extension cord, and while I'm at it, I'm gonna even use a new instrument cable (cause why not, I seriously don't know what to think of now).

Well, once again...... I played a show and the amp kept rebooting over and over. I checked the power plug to make sure it was seated correctly and everything was good. I shut it off and turned it back on but nothing helped. The amp would just reboot on it's own. I do casino shows so you can imagine how embarrassing it was to have that happen. To make matters worse, it happened smack in the middle of a guitar solo!!!!!
Peavey!!!! WTF!!!!

Re: Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Question. Is this hapening with the Sampera pedal plugged in, with both of you?
Re: Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Nope. The Sanpera pedal has too much latency. I never use it live.
Re: Vypyr VIP2 reboots
Well, I finally got in touch with Peavey and they told me that the amp has to be re-booted like a computer every once and a while. The thing is you loose all of your settings when you do this. Why should I have to re-boot anything. Anyway.... I sold everything on ebay and I will never buy another Peavey product again.
Good bye all!

Another satisfied VIP customer - NOT !!!!!!!!!!

I'm a software engineer who came up in the industry back when Microsoft dominated everything. And I realize Microsoft products have gotten much better since back then. But comments like the above from Peavey is entirely Microsoft's influence on the perception of the computer industry. No, computers should not have to be rebooted with any degree of frequency to keep them working right. Even back in the late 90's when Microsoft dominated the industry, there were competing products that did not have to be rebooted every week, much less every day to keep running. I was using Linux at the time, an operating system still freely available on the internet, and would routinely get two months of uptime from it before I had to reboot for some reason or another.Coul10 wrote:Well, I finally got in touch with Peavey and they told me that the amp has to be re-booted like a computer every once and a while. The most common reason for needing to reboot your computer these days isn't Microsoft though. It's leaving your browser open with a Flash plugin running in a web page. Flash is some crummy software with lots of bugs in it. Because Adobe has such poor implementations of Flash is a part of the reason Steve Jobs left Flash off the iPad.
But anyway, no! Just because it's a computer does not mean you have to reboot it every couple of days If that's the case, you're running some crummy software that should at the very least be re-installed or even replaced if possible.
I'm very disappointed Peavey didn't respond to this thread in any way letting us know of the posters claims were true or not. I was shocked when I read what the poster claimed Peavey said to him.
