PLEASE HELP....Peavey Wireless Mic System

Hi folks,

Our small Grade school has used a PEAVEY wireless system for over 10 years now. It has 2 handheld mic and 1 lavalier Mic. Here are the details along with 2 pictures of the receiver unit.

* We have been having issues with the lavalier cutting in and out and causing a hum – probably a problem with the transmitter or the connection between the transmitter and the mic cable. Also, the transceiver no longer has a clip attachment, so it can’t be clipped to a belt or cincture, meaning you have to try to dig under vestments into a pocket to get to it – not a deal breaker, but definitely inconvenient.

* This led to contacting another company about replacing the mic. Thy indicated it would cost quite a bit of money.

* The contact from this company pointed out that our mics are operating on frequency that the Federal government sold off for private licensed transmissions 5+ years ago and technically, we are not allowed to operate our mics on those frequencies any more, as they could interfere with other users who have purchased those frequencies.

* So, we need to replace the two hand-held mics and their transceivers, along with the lavalier and its transceiver. The two hand-helds do seem to be working fine, but the lavalier is unusable.

My question is, could someone suggest a Model Number that would work as well as the one we have when new?

Thanks, John

The frequencies are below 608MHz, so they are still good to use, no need to replace.
Here's more information on what frequencies are banned and which are still usable:
https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-div ... icrophones

Also, you do not have "transceivers", because that word means a device that both transmits and receives. You have separate devices... the belt pack and hand held units are transmitters, and the units that plug into the sound system are receivers.

If your lavaliere mic is cutting out, the transmitter is probably still good, but needs a new mic or mic cable. You provided a picture of a handheld mic, but not the lav mic and belt pack transmitter. If you could include a picture of those, I could probably recommend a replacement mic that would work with that unit.

Bartman....Thank you SO MUCH for your guidance! This is all new to me. Here is a picture of the mic. It is crazy...someone just today looked at it and said it WAS broadcasting in a frequency that was banned.

You have an Audio Technica transmitter but a Peavey receiver? Has this worked in the past? Sometimes frequencies of one brand will line up with other brands, but usually this is not advisable since there are other factors involved like gain structure among the components.

Your first picture was a Peavey hand-held and its associated receiver, but maybe your lav receiver is actually an Audio Technica brand to match? If so, then we should check it first to see whether it is in a banned frequency range. The Peavey unit pictured is good, but your AT brand may very well not be.
