Studio Pro M1, or another M2?

Post by Mongo » Wed Dec 21, 2011 8:40 pm

I have an M2 with all of the pattern switches. I've been reading in various recording magazines about having a pair of large diaphragm condenser mics for recording drum overheads, etc... Should I pick up another M2 or should I get an M1 for a little different variety? Thanks for any help.

Look at the difference in price. Two M2's are the equivlent of 6 microphones.

One M2 and one M1 make 4 microphones.

Thanks Marty, you're always so good at math. :) I just didn't know if the M1 was voiced any differently, or if it was the same as the M2 cardioid.

The gold plated diaphragms are are the same. It is two diaphragms that allow for the 3 pattern options.

Dual set of M2s is extremely more flexible. I would opt for that alternative if possible. But that always has to include the factor of what else is in your microphone cabinet. If you can add an M1 to your M2 plus adding another element that you are missing, that may make more sense.

On Amazon the M1 is $179.00 and the M2 is $209. I say two M2s. The $30 won't add any microphone of significance better than the M2.

In Australia the Peavey Importers don't stock the mics....in fact they rarely stock anything at all...!!!....they are a disgrace...Peavey should find another Australian Distributor...
I am bloody fed up....every time I want to expand my Peavey inventory, I get the same 'ole story.....more due next shipment (3 months away)...3 months later they blame Peavey for not despatching their order..
We cannot buy any Peavey mics....thankfully the Australian Shure importers are on the ball...so I have 27 shure mics. 4 AKG, 10 Audix. 9 Samson, 3 Neatron. 4 Behringer, 1 Beyerdynamic, 2 Audio Technica, 1 Clockaudio & ZERO PEAVEY....AAAAHHHHGGGG....
I think the real issue here is the Australian importer is also the importer of products made by Peavey's competitors....So perhaps it is better business to understock on Peavey....(no QW2 or CS4080 till February....no QW4 until late March, no Peavey mics at all)... I am seriously looking at directly importing from the USA in the future...
There....I've had my pre Christmas whinge...
Now I can say Happy Christmas to all in Peaveyland....

Similar experience here in the States. There are no stores in my area that stock Peavey microphones. And few other Peavey products are stocked. Gone are the 80s and 90s, where you had the full product catalog stocked at the store.

Fair enough if the local store has only nominal stock.....but not the bloody Australian importer/distributor.
I would be very surprised if your local or online store could not order stuff in for you in the USA.
Here... No matter where I try to buy Peavey gear I get the same answer....importer has Nil stock...
Plus they do not even list Peavey mics in their catalogues...

Yeah you do have it worse than we do. That is sad to hear. Maybe should move to austrailia and become the Peavey distributor.

I ordered a CS4080 and CS4000 and VSX26 on the 1st of November (I live in the US) and the 4080 and VSX just came on the 19th of December. I am still waiting on the 4000 to come in. They told me 30 to 60 days for them to get in when I ordered them.

MMMMMM......
Perhaps Peavey is becoming too popular around the world.....perhaps the Chinese pro audio market is growing so rapidly that there is not much stock left for them to export....
How do you guys fare when ordering the 'made in USA' products like loudspeaker cabs.....?????

Don't get me started on shifting manufacture to low labor cost countries!

The good news....light at the end of the tunnel, if you will, is that a lot of those jobs are slowly coming back stateside. As labor costs are starting to increase over seas and the cost of freight is sky rocketing, it is actually starting to make economic sense to bring those jobs back stateside. The ratio is closing. Do a google search and you'll turn up a few stories of manufacturers doing this.

It's also worth remembering that we (the consumer) share a large part of the responsibility for these jobs going overseas in the first place. We demand lower prices and in order to meet that demand and remain competitive, many manufacturers were forced to shift some manufacturing overseas. In short, we shopped ourselves out of a job.

Don't believe me. I'm just guessing.

I don't believe that I fit into your group. Whenever I have a choice, I purchase the USA manufactured products. Not saying that I dont buy stuff made in other countries, just that I give great efforts to buy US products.
