I use a Ultraverb II I purchased in Decemeber 1991 from time to time. Sometimes just once or twice a year. I use it when I'm not mixing on my own Digital Desk.
Its dated 2-1991 on the Eprom.
Tried it today after about a year. All my user presets are no longer there.Just took it apart to check the battery. Seems its starting to leak. I believe the battery is dead now. Lasted over 21 years!
I believe its OK to remove the battery and still the factory presets will remain? (They are still there now)
I can get by with just the factory presets for now but want to get the battery out before any damage to the circuit board happens.
Anyone remove the battery in thiers before?
Thanks
Doug
Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
Re: Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
Factory presets (or factory settings in general) are generally saved on an eeprom so they should never go away (unless you happen to remove the label if it is there and put a specific wavelength of light into it - generally in the UV range). Back in the day the user settings were stored on a volatile ram chip with a backup battery as it was cheaper. Since other types of NVRAM (ie, Flash RAM) are becoming cheaper nowadays it is more common to see them without the battery.
So a) Yes, the factory settings should always remain.
b) If you're looking to replace the battery, can you read any of the writing on it? There's a chance its a standard CR2025, CR2032 (20 is the diamater, 25/32 is the thickness) or the like, though it could also be one of those inside a shrink-wrapped casing with wires coming out. The straight CR-batteries can be acquired at radio shack, etc..
If there are no writings or not a standard CR-based number, you may want to contact Peavey CS to see if there are ways to get replacements or what a comparable battery model would be these days.
Edit: Disregard what I said about EEPROMS, I'm confusing them with EPROMS... But the second part should still apply.

It seems to be held in with metal clips on each end of the battery that are sticking up from the pc board. I believe the battery is soldered to the clips? I wish the battery would just pull out but I don't think it will.
I'll take some pictures when I get to it again today.

Re: Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
Took a look at it. Its a basic varta 3/v60r computer backup battery. I ordered one.
Should be a quick fix. Just need to remove the PC board and unsolder the battery. It has 2 pins on the positive side, one on the neg.
Thanks;

Re: Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
In regards to replacing the battery in my Ultraverb 2.
Took the frame apart. Removed the 4 screws on the bottom holding the PC board in place.
Removed the 3 nuts that held the knobs in place on the front and disconnected the 3 ribbons that feed the front controls from the pc board.
First picture is of the teardown.
Closer look at the battery area. New battery will go in the circle area on the pc.
Installed new battery.
Last picture is the unit up and running. I did a factory reset to the unit. In the case of the ultraverb 2 it was pressing and holding the + button and the 9 button in while powering on.
All presets came back and I could edit and store presets to the User locations. In this case 300ms in user location #3.
Took me about 20 minutes to do. About a 2 on the scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the hardest.
If you have some older peavey gear be sure to check your batteries as they may need to be changed out.

Re: Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
Its been out on loan to a new local band for about 6 months now. I know they are playing tonight but I will check with them as for the rest of the weekend. Glad you reminded me as I had forgot all about letting them use it.
If you contact peavey they are normally pretty good at sending parts list or schematic. Not sure how long they are out for the holiday here but send them an email just in case someone is around.
Best of luck in your repair and let us know how it goes. Nice units in their day.

Re: Peavey Ultraverb II Battery
Just replaced my battery. Ordered from batteryguy dot com. Didn't take long to arrive. $13.21 USD. 3.6v, 80mA
FWIW: Batteries + (Plus) can make a battery from 3 separate cells (NiCad) that equal the Volts and a little higher amperage. (If you look you'll see that the original is 3 cells inside a plastic wrap.) Or, they'll take the mounts off the old battery and weld to a new one there in the store. They didn't have the exact replacement available from their supplier with the mounts pre-attached and would've had to order the new on(s). Cost is similar to the one I ordered.
