xr 8300 volume spike
xr 8300 volume spike
Any reason why a Peavey xr8300 would all of a sudden have a volume spike? Its like it went from volume 4 to ten, then 2 seconds later back to 4. I'm surprised it didn't blow the speakers. Is it possible the mixer is on its last leg? I've used 3 Peavey mixers over the last 30 years and have never experienced anything like that.
Re: xr 8300 volume spike
Could be a problem with the main volume POT, might just be dirty contacts. While powered off, you could try twisting all knobs back and forth several times to clear out any carbon build-up on the internal contacts. Power up and play some music through it, then turn knobs a little at a time and see if that causes any "static" noise as you are turning one. If so, then turn that knob back and forth several times more to see if the scratchy noise clears up. If it's not scratchy or static noise, and goes straight to full-volume when you touch a knob, then there may be a bad solder connection on the circuit board or a bad POT (potentiometer).
Re: xr 8300 volume spike
thank you Bartman. Some are scratchy. Main Volume is not though. How complicated is it to get deoxit in the pots? Take the whole thing apart?
Re: xr 8300 volume spike
While off and unplugged, you should be able to spray a little contact cleaner around the base of the knob shaft which will creep down into the innards of the pot, then do the twisting back and forth to work it in good. Doesn't take much spray, but does take a little time. You shouldn't have to open it all up, just pull the knob off each one you want to clean so you can clearly get some spray down the shaft.
Re: xr 8300 volume spike
too late,,I ended up taking it apart, which was a bit of a chore. 2 hidden screws had me perlexed. Once I figured it out it was really simple. Easier the next time, hopefully no next time. I managed to get at each pot, volume, treble, mid and bass with the plastic straw that came with deoxit. So didn't have to take the board apart. No resistance at all on them pots now and no scratchy noises.
thanks for the replies,,I appreciate it
