Hello. I have a FX16 Mk1 mixer (FX1604). I bought it used and have used it at about 8 gigs. At a very small gig we only had vocals and kick drum mic'd and the singers vocals (ch1) kept cutting out but mine (ch2) worked OK. We made it through the night though. At the next and most recent show right out of the gate the mp3 player which is connected the the RCA ports kept stop playing and would only recover after powering off/on the mixer. At the time the vocal mics still worked. As we got on with the gig everything went downhill. Mics were cutting off at the FOH speakers and we could only recover by powering off/on the mixer. The output to the floor monitors did not fail.
I read where some people were talking about the CPU load. Is this an issue? At idle, mine runs about 82-85%
The current FW level is 1.30, Kernal is 1.33
I also saw there was some kind of a known issue with the MK1 series manufactured prior to 2011. I don't know when mine was manufactured.
The serial number is K0483441. I see there is a modification to solder a resister and capacitor on one of the circuit boards. Is this modification used to fix the issue I am having?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Kevin

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
I don't think CPU load is a problem, I've intentionally overloaded it to the point it practically stopped, but the audio never quit. However, since the main audio path does go through the DSP, if it locked up (crashed) it could stop the audio.
The known issue will make the mains drop out...that is every input at the same time. Not just channel 1 and channel 2 keeps working. That's a problem with channel 1.
All that said, I would start with the mod. Make sure it has been applied.
I found a note that stated the starting serial number for the modification is K0533146. Looks like yours was built before that. I'd start there.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
Thanks for the info Jim. Now I have a place to start.
I will get the mod installed. Is there a part number for this mod which I can order from the Peavey website?
Thank you.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
I'm looking for the parts..
I can't find any parts online when searching for the Peavey designated part numbers. I emailed support but haven't heard back from them yet.
100k ohm resistor - Peavey part number 30200126
Capacitor 47uf @ 35v - Peavey part number 30320344
On amazon I found 100 packs of 100k resistors. Seems like a waste to order 100 when I only need one.. But I will if I have to..
The ones I found are either 1.0 watt, .5 watt, or .25 watt..
Which of these should I choose?
Thanks

Order 10...just for fun. They are easy to lose and damage when soldering...so a few extras can't be a bad idea.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
I was so excited to get your last response that I ordered the parts without really looking at the specs.
I received the parts to find that the 100k resistor is the surface mount style instead of the through hole style.
Am I missing something?
The picture shows that the 100k resistor is to go between R133 and R142..
So am I correct that I need the through hole style and it is to be soldered between the two points specified in the pic?
Thanks.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
No, it's fine, you can just lay it on the board. It should reach between the two points, just make sure you aren't accidentally touching any other points on the board.
Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
Got it.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
I modified the board and turned off the mains processing. I don't really need that since I'm using a DBX Driverack anyway. I ran an mp3 player through the board for 48 hours and had no issues so I decided to try it at a gig. The board worked fine at the gig and had no issues. Time will be the real test but I'm happy so far. Thanks for you help Jim H.

Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
That's great, hope it keeps going.
Re: FX16 MK1 Mixer cutting out
It has been two months now and I have used the mixer at 6 or 7 gigs. There have NOT been any more drop outs. Hopefully this thread will help someone out in the future. Take care.
