peavey pv6 mixer high signal intensity

Anyone else have this issue with this mixer? I use it to DJ and have my laptop into channel 1. My gain on that channel has to be all the way down, volume almost down as well because if not my powered speakers start to clip. What gives??

What input connector are you plugged into? XLR? 1/4"?

also how hot is your input signal. can you turn it down and the gain up then? maybe input device around 1/2 if it has a volume knob?
and does pv6 channel one have a switch to pad incoming signals? some do
