I'm new to the group, however not new to Peavey equipment.
I recently purchased a XR8600 powered mixer used, great unit, plenty of inputs and power for my needs.
My issue is:
When I use a cable that has speakon connections on both ends and plug into a speaker with a speakon connection, all is well. However, when I use a cable that has speakon on one end and 1/4" on the other and plug into any speaker with a 1/4" connection, no sound. I know the amplifiers are working because I see the indicator lights on the mixer. I had the cable checked by my local music store and the cables test fine. The reason this is an issue is the speaker I'm using are Peavey PR10 with 1/4" connections only.
On the other hand If I use a cable with 1/4" on both ends, all is well.
Whay aren't my cable that are speako and 1/4" not working???
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
XR8600 Speakon Connection???
Re: XR8600 Speakon Connection???
I found that the combo speakon/1/4" connections of the mixer are one or the other. I can use 1/4" to 1/4" or I can use Speakon to Speakon. The only way a Speakon to 1/4" cable with work is if the cable is rewired some kind of way.
Re: XR8600 Speakon Connection???
You've either got Speakon-1/4 cable that is wired weirdly or something else going on. I've quite literally sold dozens of these units and paired them to 1/4-Speakon cables and they always work.

I, too, have used the Speakon/1/4" adapter cables and have never had a problem.
Re: XR8600 Speakon Connection???
Thank you for the responses. I wonder if I should return it to Guitar Center now? .especially since there are two responses that suggest this is unusual.
The other thing is when the power amps are set to main/monitor, pressing the button to mute 1-7 also mutes the monitor amp.
I just discovered today after rehearsal, the unit makes a static sound while all channels are vacant, nothing plugged in.
Really getting nervous now.

Also as far as the 1/4" to speakon cables, they have been tested at my local music store and they work. They also work on my bass amp head. I will say that the bass amp speaker outputs are speakon only and not speakon/1/4" combo.
