CS 800S Repair - Potentiometer

Post by bcain » Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:28 am

i have a CS 800S amp that has a bad pot and would like to replace it. Pretty sure I can get a replacement but need to know the best method to remove and replace it.

I believe there is a small setscrew recessed in the knobs that you will need to loosen in order to remove them, then unscrew other things holding the whole assembly in place... might have to move the main amp circuit boards to be able to get at them. It's been a while since I had one open so don't remember the exact situation on these. I have 4 dead CS800S amps that got fried by an improperly wired building, and the pots on them should still be good. I'd be willing to part them out if it comes to that.

I haven't disassembled it yet but the pot set screws are not visible from the front. I assume I can remove the front panel and get to them. The pots are on a separate board bent upward 90 degrees and connected to a larger PCB with individual soldered wires. If the front panel will come off I'm thinking I can bend the board downward slightly the remove and desolder the pots. At least that's what I'm hoping. Don't really want to remove a main pcb if at all possible.
