PA-400 mixer power amplifier

Post by Rikki » Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:46 am

Dear Forum users,

I have recently bought an old PA-400 mixer power amplifier (see attached pictures). I intend to send a stereo signal from a guitar effects board to the amplifier (either through A B inputs or AUX input), however, I can only get a mono signal to the speakers. Does anyone know if the PA-400 does not support stereo signal out? I have read the manual, which does not mention mono or stereo output at all.

Best,
Rikki

It is a mono amp.

You will note that each channel does not have a pan or balance control. There is only one power amp in the thing.

To put a bit of perspective on it: stereo does not make much sense with long-throw speakers (too much cancellation and/or too little spatialisation) and 400W does not make much sense with short-throw speakers. So there is a point in using one or several mono amps without shared instrumental sources on stage. Stereo effects and mixes are more useful for recording/broadcasting or for comparatively small venues. But for the latter, going by instrument amps may be simplest again unless you prefer giving a sound guy the last word on your acoustic footprint.

Hi.

I have bought recently a PEAVEY PA 400.
I used it as bass amp, ans it's pretty powerfull!

Does anyone know how to use the low scan or the high scan pots, properly?

Have a nice day!

Sincerely

You have master bass, middle, and treble controls The scan controls are simply the crossover point between them. Look at the printed scale under each knob. Lke a parametric.
