Peavey Escort 6000 - Speaker Outs Not Working

Post by vcqrush » Thu Nov 14, 2024 3:05 pm

I was given a Peavey Escort 6000 system. While the monitor and the subwoofer outs work, the Left and Right speaker outs do not. I have some basic electronic knowledge but haven't found the schematics for the 6000 yet. I'd hate to pay a repair center $200+ to remove and replace a component that I can solder in myself. Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, what was the solution. Thanks!

It sounds like the amplifiers are damaged and not working.

Repairing amps isn't just a "point to the part and change it" endeavor. In the case of the amplifiers there are very often other (surrounding) parts that are damaged. It may be obvious that the amplifier IC's need changing, but figuring out what else could be damaged is much more difficult.

It uses a pair of TDA8920 SMD output chips.
One may have failed causing the other to stop working. These are not the sort of thing a novice can change.
It may even be a bad connection in the routing jacks.

It uses a pair of TDA8920 SMD output chips.
This is not true. The older Escort 3000 used those. The Escort 6000 uses two TDA8954 through-hole devices for the amplifiers. Those devices have become obsolete and difficult to obtain.

Thanks everyone! I found a technician who thinks he can fix it. If not, he said he can try installing a spare 5000 amp board. Wish me luck and thanks again for your help!
