CS-800 1/4" outputs shorted from factory?

Post by NovaNinja » Wed Aug 30, 2023 7:49 pm

Howdy
A friend of mine just gave me an old CS-800 to take a look at, said he couldn't get it working.
I hooked it up and one of the 1/4" outputs only works if you hold it just right, so I took it apart and found this.
I don't know how it ever worked. The pin on the right is on the same trace as the pins for the tip.

Is this a known issue? I can't be the first to find this, right? Maybe someone replaced the jack at some point with an incorrect one?

Thanks

I know there is high current 1/4 inch jacks that were available on some amps. There would be 2 contacts to the tip and 2 contacts for the sleeve. Could that be what these are? It also looks like someone has worked on that board but can't be sure. Maybe someone added the high current 1/4 inch jacks and maybe wired it wrong? Hard to tell from the image.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't know if this image helps any
Image

The pins on the left and top are connected to the tip
The pin on the top right is connected to the sleeve
The pin on the bottom right is connected to the case
I connected a 1/4" cable to it and confirmed what I see with an ohm meter

As far as I can tell the only work done to the board is from me unsoldering the connector.
Also, as far as I know the 1/4" jacks were never used it was connected its entire life with the red/black posts.

I'm considering cutting the trace around the right pin and soldering a jumper

Almost looks like a switching jack which should be on the input side. Odd.

That is a two tip 1/4" jack for higher current applications. The other pin is the switching pin...but it should have no connection to the ground pin.

It should also disconnect from the tip pins when a cable is plugged in.
