CS-800 Commercial Amp

Post by jbtunes » Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:02 pm

good day everyone.. I would like to introduce myself, as I do believe I am the new guy on the block. my name is Jim. I am 61 years Young and still running peavey equipment pretty doggone hard at times! with that being said that brings me to my post.. I have a PV cs-800 amplifier. I have had this app for many years and have never had to make any repairs, they just are that bulletproof as I am sure you guys know. recently, I have the idea that upgrading the op-amps would be fantastic. after swapping them out I almost hate to even State this because I so know better, but while reinstalling the cooling sinks back on top of the amp I sorted the driver board directly to ground. I thought that the app was unplugged but I had actually unplugged something else. okay, yeah I hear ya, I hear everybody!! I know that was a really bad move and you're right I should have known better, but it is what it is now! my question is this, these glass tubular capacitors that look like regular film capacitors, where in the world can I purchase some of them? LOL, and while I'm asking, where can I get a wiring diagram or schematic for this beast. I've called myself looking online and have not found anything that was of any type of help. the light green ones if I understand what I found to be correct are in microfarads and the color codes that I've got on that is brown, black, brown, gold and white.
the ones that are light blue are in Pico ferrets, cc'd brown, black and yellow. could I substitute a regular capacitor for one of these as long as the tolerances were close? I would prefer to go back with the OEM part but I am having such a hard time finding them. any help to the new guy would be most greatly appreciated.

Which CS800 do you have? What does it call it on the serial number sticker? IIs it one of the older ones with a volume control towards either side? Or is it the newer version with the "wind tunnel" vent through the front panel and the two volume controls are side by side near the bottom?

The older ones are also one rack space taller than the wind tunnel guys. There were three variants on the old one, the later of them, and maybe more common was the C variant, also called "zener" on the label sometimes.

I'd be looking for bad transistors before I'd worry about the little ceramic or film caps.

Any chance you can post a couple of pictures of the components that are in question here? How old is this unit? I believe that I have a schematic of the CS-800 around somewhere, but it maybe an older variant. Try to provide more details with pics that show the problem areas. Where are you located? Perhaps someone here local to you can help more.

We can identify the model easily from a photo, and all the schematics are in my files. That is why I asked which version he had. We do need to use the correct drawings.
