SP 5 G

Post by Gearheadgregg » Sun Jul 31, 2022 7:36 am

Ok im new at this stuff so be easy on me lol..Picked up a sound system cheap from a friend for our band . Question is Running BI Amp and DBX 223 ...Hooked up Highs to one amp and low to other thru DBX crossover . No question on the Low input on two 18 Peavey subcomacts..But The SP 5G for high input has built in crossover in Normal jack input .Will the Normal input used work with the DBX also in this routing ? will it give the Mid range 15" enough juice ? Or will just push the horns ? TIA

There are 2 Full Range inputs on the SP-5 and 1 Bi-amp High and 1 Bi-amp low as you have noted. When your Bi-amping with a sub you'll want to set the crossover "around" 100hz. Send 100hz and below to the amp running the SubCompact 18's and the High's out of the crossover to an amp to power the Sp-5's and then into the Full Range input on the SP-5's. Going into full range will allow the passive crossover in them to still split the frequencies between the 15 inch woofer and horn. The passive crossover inside provides the CD horn eq for the horn and level matching. It also keeps the lower frequencies from reaching the horn and damaging it. The reverse is that it keeps the high frequencies out of the woofer.

The Bi-amp High and Low jacks are a straight shot into the woofer or horn depending on which one you use. These are "switching" jacks and they bypass the passive crossover in the SP-5's. If you went into the Bi-amp High jack you'd be putting 100hz and above into the horn. The horn is not designed to handle frequencies this low and you would most likely damage the horn. If you went into the Bi-amp Low jack you'd be putting again 100hz and above in to just the woofer. The woofer is not designed to handle the higher frequencies so it would sound bad.

Hope this helps;
Doug
