Scorpion question

Post by claytoy » Sat May 28, 2022 6:19 pm

I just got back my 215 d from my son-in-law who had it for a couple years .there were new baskets on the scorpions when I gave it to him and nowthey both are blown. paper looks perfect but voice coils are obviously damaged. I'm wondering what what are the power requirements? I mean what is the minimum wattage I need. I know the maximum but what's the minimum wattage needed to run the speakers. thank you

i dont think there is a min required wattage... if it fits the situation you are using them for , 1 watt would suffice.

my old renown had 15" scorps in it, they worked fine playing in an apartment (real quiet) and on an open field party with 2-3k people.

so if you are concerned imo there is no way to damage coils by underpowering them.
(other then thinking you can redline a mixer because the amp is rated below what the speaker is)

what probably happened was something was clipped or too low of a freq was given to the 215d and they bounced the coils out.

And are replacement baskets available? I'd sure go that route.

Yeah 300 bucks for the two. Alot more than when I replaced them last time.
