Biamping SP4 V2

Post by PA is my hobby » Sat Mar 19, 2022 3:23 pm

These speakers are 3 way and after moving the jumper in each cab, I hooked up my IPR2 5000 to Pins 1+ and 1- and my IPR2 3000 to Pins 2+ and 2- The sound is impressive but the upper 15 doesn’t have the same output. I assume it’s because internal circuitry is continuing to handle what it needs to. I have the XO35 as well. I’m not complaining because I have 2 of the SP 218 V2 that I drive with my IPR2 7500, I just want to be sure it’s working as it should because putting my ear to the grill tells me nothing because the bottom 15 overpowers it. I tried changing the crossover point as a test but it appears the internal components manage accordingly. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance!

The SP4 is quasi 3-way, so it is bi-ampable but not tri-ampable. The lower 15" has a low-pass filter, making it act as a sub, so it will sound different than the top 15" which is full range up to whatever crossover point you use on your external x-over.

Thank You for your reply. Trying to find any in-depth info on anything Peavey is not an easy task.
