Peavey pvi 8500 mixer,,what speakers?

Post by grob123 » Fri Feb 09, 2024 4:17 pm

I have a Peavey pvi 8500 and I was wondering if I could use Peavey PVX 12 two way speakers with it. Probably a dumb question but would hate to purchase and find out it won't be a good thing.

The Peavey pvi 8500 is a powered mixer amplifier and will suit passive speakers of the rated power and impedance;
4 ohms minimum impedance. You may connect either one 4-ohm, one 8-ohm or two 8-ohm speakers to each output.

So as long as they are 8 ohms it will work? Does wattage matter. I have Peavey pr-10 speakers but I need a little more oomph.

Wattage does matter.
If you push 250Watts into a 100Watt speaker, you will acheive heat and then a destroyed voice coil.
If you have two speakers at 8 Ohms, they will be fine as two 8's in parallel equals 4 Ohms and that is the lowest impedance the amplifier can handle.
Your user manual explains all.

Thank you, I really appreciate this. The speakers are 350 watts 8ohms

I got some Yorkvill Nx20 speakers and they sound awful with the mixer. Distorted and mumbled!
