I this a stock T-40 bass and case
I was going to sell my T-40 because I have so many basses along with my Peavey mark III amp. I was told by this guy who claimed to be a peavey T-40 expert that my case was not the original case and that someone shave the body. In my limited checking I don't think he is correct. So I thought I would check on here.

Re: I this a stock T-40 bass and case
Yes, this is a stock Peavey T40 bass. One of the earlier ones. I own one from this era. It appears the "expert" may be correct though, that the body was shaved down a little more on the forearm contour area for comfort. My T40 from this era has a more gradual and only slight contour and actually digs into my forearm because it is not as pronounced as your T40. I could be wrong about this. I'm judging it like this because the coloring (or supposed wear) of the wood in that exact area (where it seems a little more extreme to me) is so defined with a nice straight edge to the contour area. I would probably consider doing the same to my T40 because that is one of the few things that bothers me about my T40 is that it lacks a forearm contour and digs into my arm when I sit and play it for more than 20-30 min. That honest bothers me more than the weight.
The case certainly looks original. I have seen these olive green lined cases with several T40's over the years and if you do some searches, you will find pics of Peavey T40's from this era having this case. I've seen this case with too many T40's from the early era for it to be a coincidence. I remember reading it was a possible transition case from the original, square, modeled plastic case (with the rust colored interior and peavey amp logo on front) to the chainsaw type case with built in handle later on. Or it was one of the first cases used before they contracted with their first case maker. I think there was also a blue lined case as well at one point.

Didn't try very hard to find this. Looks just like your case.

Re: I this a stock T-40 bass and case
Looks like it's been contoured a bit to give the player's right arm more comfort, and judging from the case, it's probably a 1979. Peavey used the black Fender-type cases with the yellow-green lining from late '78 through '79 as a brief intermediate solution during the switch from the the original copper-lined rectangular vacuformed cases to the more common (and much more durable) brown-lined teardrop style.
I'd like to get a '79 with that case. All of my T-40s and T-60s are early ones with those hideous rectangular cases.
