what is best way to remove the deteriorated foam gunk from guitar that has been stored for long time?

I've heard folks recommend using naptha.

For pete's sake don't use acetone,it dissolves nail polish so WILL have an effect on the finish.

The same folks saying naptha recommend cutting yoga mats to re-line the case.

WD40 worked for me. Break the guitar down and soak any metal parts. Spray the body and let it sit ( dont flood the control cavities or neck pocket)
Scrape off the worst with a plastic scraper and then spray a rag and wipe the remaining residue off the body.
