Grind bass knob removal

I recently aquired a NOS Peavey Grind bass ... it is surprisingly good and I look forward to playing it. I would like to remove the knobs from the pots (I want to add active electronics) but so far they won't budge. Is there a special tool that is required to remove them?

Not familiar with the Grind, but most knobs are attached in one of two ways. Some have a tiny set screw that tightens against the pot shaft. Others are friction mounted, meaning that the knob pushes down over the pot shaft and is held by friction or tightness. If yours are friction mounted and won't budge, put a small towel down by the pot and use a flat blade screw driver and gently pry up a little section at a time working your way around the knob. The towel is to prevent damage to the area around the knob and pot.

or wrap a shoe string around the shaft under the knob and work it loose a little at a time, rotating the knob as you go
