T-40 first year model question for the experts out there
T-40 first year model question for the experts out there
I have just recently acquired a T40 Bass from a good friend who knew I had one back in the early 80's and was unloading some collectable gear. This particular bass has a stamped on serial number of 176313 however I have the original warranty packet with original owner's manual and the warranty packet says the serial number is 8M176313. I did some looking up and it looks as if the 8M series may have been among the first year run?? I sent a request to Peavey Customer Service with all the info I had asking if they could tell me more about when this bass was made, ect but never heard back. Anybody out there have any Idea from the S/N info?? I have the original case and warranty certificate too.

Tommy it's a first year, all the telltale signs are there.
0176 would make it from 84,by then the toaster pickups were changed to blades and the aluminium nut was now plastic.

I was pretty sure it was a 1978 model from several bits of info I had gleaned. It would be cool to find out from the serial number where it stood in the production line that first year - anybody know if the serial numbers have any reference to that little tidbit?

I found this on-line:
Dating- Due to a Database malfunction Peavey no longer offers dating of vintage Peavey Instruments.
The chart below will give approximate dating:
6 digit and 8Mxxxxxx 1978 There were also a few all zero serial numbered basses sent out as dealer demos.

Between T60s and T40s Peavey were churning out 200 a day. You could take that as a starting point then work back.

Not only is it a '78 six-digit, from what I can see in the photo it looks like it has the TRC pinstripe. If so, that's a *very* rare early T-40.kodiakblair wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 4:50 amTommy it's a first year, all the telltale signs are there.

Re: T-40 first year model question for the experts out there
Well sad news is I sold it a while back - could not stand the weight of it and got it from a friend who was in need of money and so when I sold it I sent him the extra money I gained by selling it and it helped him out...
