Hi all out there.
I am new in this forum so I hope not to make too many errors on my first trial.
I bought in 2003 a Cirrus 4 in USA and received it in Italy, where it did his fine work until 10 days ago where the onboard preamp died.
I thought to install an aftermarket preamp and try to repair the original instead to send the whole guitar around the world, so I purchased a Glockenklang 3 bands 5 pots and went to install it, when I realized that pickups have 3 and not 2 wires coming out.
There are a white shielded and a red unshielded wire each pickup.
Can somebody help me finding out how the wiring of those pickups are intended to work?
Many thanks all of you!!!
Tiziano

Re: Cirrus onboard preamp
Hi Tiziano
The red wire takes a power feed from the batteries.
VFL pickups are true actives in the sense they need power to work.
Divert power from the battery connects, pass it through the pickups then return it to the preamp.

Unfortunately still silent, will have to extract and check the pickups.kodiakblair wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 1:02 pm@owl199

Can´t imagine that both went fried at once...but!
I am crying for having to disassemble my good old Cirrus, and moreover I hate not having it more like original.
Amp ist tested working, cable is tested working, new preamp, so it can be only the pickups.
Have to lookout for new Pups, I guess. At least I have a wide range of choice since I already changed the pre, just look to find something fitting in the cavities, I dunno want to work on the body, is a peacock blue, and the finish laquering is extremely delicate to handle.
Will come back once I solved the problem.

Re: Cirrus onboard preamp
Might be something very simple like the battery clips, the ones Peavey used were very flimsy.
Looking forward to hearing " it's Alive "

Indeed, it was the output jack, yesterday I soldered the one that came with the Glockenklang system the flying way(cannot firmly install it cause too short for the body) and...BOOOM!!Alive again.
Now I am awaiting for a new one that can fit to the body, than I´ll test the system in peace.
For the 3-4 notes I got out it seems to me an improvement.

Excellent news, I'm glad to hear the problem has been located and fixed. OK temporary fix but that's still a fixowl199 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 5:54 amIndeed, it was the output jack, yesterday I soldered the one that came with the Glockenklang system the flying way(cannot firmly install it cause too short for the body) and...BOOOM!!Alive again.

Re: Cirrus onboard preamp
And here it is, actually I could try to reinstall the orig. Pre-Amp, but I like also the sound of the Glockenklang, that I find a bit more punchy at the very end the Jack was the culprit.

Re: Cirrus onboard preamp
Very nice.
I like the Glockenklang myself, one went in my Sarzo after the stock preamp failed.

Re: Cirrus onboard preamp
Oh that's great to know, Blair ! I thought a Bartolini NTMB was the only preamp that works as an aftermarket for a Cirrus. I didn't know about the diverting thing. Good to know. You ALWAYS have a wealth of advice !! - Mikekodiakblair wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 12:43 pmHi Tiziano
