Important Announcement About Serial Numbers- Read This!

Post by Roger Crimm » Fri Jun 26, 2009 10:42 am

Peavey Electronics is very proud of its long tradition of building quality products that can bring a lifetime of service and enjoyment. The year 2010 will mark our 45th year in business, and we wish to sincerely thank our customers for their support. Without you, we obviously would not be here.

Due to the volume of quality products that have been manufactured and sold over time, Peavey gets an ever-increasing number of requests for “born on dates” for older products. Unfortunately the archive containing this old serial number information has a problem and is currently shut down.
For this reason, we are currently unable to respond to these requests. At this time, I do not know whether this situation is temporary or permanent.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. We assure you that Peavey Electronics will continue it's a tradition of working hard to insure that our customers get the best possible quality, value, and service.

A few tips that will help:

If the number has a two digit prefix, it may give a clue as to the date for some products.

For example, a two digit prefix such as 6A followed by five or six numerals would indicate a 70's product ("A" is for amp, "E" is for enclosure), and the prefix indicates the year. If the prefix is followed by 8 numerals, you have a 80's product and again, the prefix indicates the year.

So:

5A-12345 would indicate 1975
7A-123456 would indicate 1977

6A-12345678 would indicate 1986

After 1989, this system is no longer used, 00-12345678 means 1990 or later.
