T60 Mixed Pickups Question

Post by RedFence » Wed Jul 20, 2022 12:32 pm

Looking at picking up my first T60. I've found one with a toaster pickup in the neck and blade in the bridge. Did the factory ever do this, or am I looking at a modified guitar? Still waiting for a pic of the ss#. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Toaster & blade are effectively the same pickup, Toasters were just blades with a top layer of plastic.

It would not have left the factory with a mix of blade/toaster.

Either of two things are happening here.

1. A pickup was replaced.

2. The toaster's plastic layer cracked and the owner removed the loose parts ; exposing the blades in the process.

Excellent, thanks for the quick response. Got the serial number, 01362486, which I believe would put it at 1983. This would have come with exposed blades, not toaster covers, correct?

By 83, it should have had blades.

Just thought of another possible reason for a swap.

Peavey used the same pickups for both neck and bridge while most other companies fit a hotter pickup in the bridge position.

Blades are wound a tiny bit hotter than toasters, a toaster at the neck would balance the two better.
