Whats the status of the HP2?

Post by Stratty316 » Sat Mar 02, 2019 1:04 pm

After almost 2 years of waiting for an HP2 on order at Sweetwater, I get a call from my rep that the order has been canceled and that Peavey has halted production of the HP2. Is there an official answer from Peavey as to what is the status of the HP2?

Good question for Roger Crimm. Recommend you send this post direct to him.

I am curious as well. I see them here and there on the net, but not sure. Peavey website still shows them to be available, but that never means a whole lot as their website is not always current.

Do tell...

If you are moving into making USA guitars again, I say T60 and Signature Series...those are my favorites.

Last i heard they are having to retool. The first run was parts that remained from the original wolfgang. Some of those bodies and parts had been sitting and weren't up to snuff to use for production. Many needed more work to get them ready than production schedules would allow. Hence the limited availability. Many of those parts haven't been made since the wolfgang was discontinued at the end of the contract with EVH. So there is significant retooling to remake NEW parts. Plus the original tooling hand not been in use and had fallen into disrepair. "we don't make those anymore so we don't need those tools".

i dont think they thought they would sell as fast as they have. Plus it was a payback decision to remake 'em due to eddie breaking the gentleman's agreement he had with hartley. They are making them in plant 3; i know that for a fact and have SEEN them in production.

Necro-thread I know, but can we safely say that all USA HP2s that were made were from NOS Wolfgang parts? Thanks.

yes the first ones were left over parts. The new ones are made in europe. New parts

They are billing the new ones as NOS. It is even stamped on the headstock.

i saw that. i think they are making those from the remnants of the relaunch. Fred Poole has said new ones will be made in europe.

Yeah, I understand that. I was under the impression that the new ones will be made in Czech, from the NOS parts (wood, anyway). Thanks.

its possible and even likely that they shipped them there to tool for new parts. once tooled, the NOS stuff would be built out too
