A six-digit T is worth more to a collector than the average player. Price would depend on condition.

Hello all,

Great site here which I joined a few days ago. I'm allitle confused about which year T60 I have. My Grandmother bought me this guitar BEFORE I went into the Navy in August of 1980. That I am absolutly positive about. The serial number is 00763966. It has the blade style pickups and flat blade switches along with the plastic truss rod cover. What year would this be? Maybe I'm reading the chart wrong. I would post a pic but can't seem the accomplish this with my iPad. The guitar was bought new from Riccardos music center in Connecticut.

Thanks in advance

Serial number falls in the 1981 range, but the serial number list we've been using isn't official however.

0066xxxx - 0099xxxx 1981

Blades starting showing up around this time. It's not unusual to see one with blades and small flat switches. One of my T-60s falls in the same range as yours. It also had blades and small flat switches. Personally I prefer the toasters and installed a set in this one.

I just purchased another T-60 today that falls in the 1982 range. It's got blades and fat bat switches.

Frank thanks for getting back to me. Is it possible that they were selling 1981 models in 1980? Like the do with new cars? While I am 53...I am positive of my date of enlistment...lol. I know these dates of production not accurate and honestly im just really happy to have this guitar still in my hands.

Thanks again Frank!

I don't think we can positively call any T a certain year beyond the 8M's and 00000000s. I've no idea who originally put the list together. I've been using it the past 10 years. The first time I saw it was on our original T-60 forum.

I remember a few years ago (before Peavey's database crash) I would send an email asking for a birthdate on a new serial number. The greater majority of those came back with the same year I came up with on that list. A few came back a year younger. I had one come back that showed a year before the production for that particular model started.

Like you I remember my enlistment date. I skipped school and took my mom with me to the recruiting office on my 17th birthday. :D

Thank you frank! I'm going with 1980... That I can believe and understand. One thing is for sure. She let me pick anything I wanted on the wall (within reason) and I chose this beauty.
So glad I did. I was really close to her and I feel like getting reacquainted with my old friend.

Thanks again.

Now if I can only get those new pickups!

I didn't get my first T until about 10 years ago. I had been a Les Paul guy since the 80s until that first T.

Keep an eye on eBay. Some decently priced ones show up from time to time.

I just traded around and ended up with a T-60 in the original case. Serial # 8M244025 I know that makes it a '78, but do you believe that this one could be early in the batch made that year?

Congrats on the 8M. I've been wanting to add one to my collection for a long time.

Of all the 8M's I've documented 8M153958 is the lowest and 8M274142 is the highest. Yours makes 93 8M's I've been able to document.

I just found a great deal on an early T-60. I have read the earlier posts about 6 digit serial numbers, which mine has 215XXX. I am confused by some of the information on the web that speaks of 8Mxxxxxx serial numbers and 00xxxxxx serial numbers, because my serial number is not written in either of those formats. I know that it is an early model because it has "toaster" pickups and it states, "Patents Applied For" on the front of the headstock, indicating that no patents on the guitar had yet been awarded. Also, there is no "P" on the tuners. The main reason that I bought this particular guitar is that it is a natural finish, maple fretboard, that is really accentuated by a tortoise shell pickguard instead of black one. It looks great and is in near mint condition. Is there any further information that you may have about this guitar.
Also, I noticed that the T-60 on Steve Wariner's first album has control functions written on the pickguard. Was this offered as an option?
Thanks.

We really don't know for sure if the 6 digits predate or follow the 8M's, but both predate the 8 digits.

T's came with a plastic overlay with the description of the various controls. I haven't seen that album cover but I'd venture a guess that he hadn't taken that overlay off. You'll see one with the overlay show up on eBay from time to time.

Good questions. They sound like my questions when I found my T-60. Our guitars are practically neighbors!
You might check out t60mafia.com for more knowledge and discussion. The overlays looked like this.

Thanks for the feedback. Here is a picture of the Steve Wariner album cover. I highly recommend it. It is filled with catchy early 80s country pop songs.
