Need Help on a T-27 Build
Hi guys, I am asking for some help on a T-27 build I am taking on. I found an all natural T-27 body with just the bridge so I am starting from ground zero.
What I plan on doing is finishing the body first along with making my own pick guard from wood. As we all know parts for the T series guitars is sparse and the pick guard for the T-27 is not listed anywhere as far as I know.
So with that said would someone who has a T-27 pick guard maybe off for work please send me a template of that PG on paper so I can start on the PG in a few weeks or so. Maybe post a good picture on the PG on white paper and maybe it can be used as a scale up picture for others, I am just not that savoy with printers.
Will be needing info on a 24 3/4 23 fret neck also. Maybe witch would be a good after market one.
Look forward to some help, also will pay for the template mailing.
Thanks

Re: Need Help on a T-27 Build
Great project. That body looks nice.
I have had many pickguards made over the years. No one would ever accept a scan. They always want the direct trace. I think they want to be 100% accurate and the scanning process is a variable that can mess up the trace. Pretty sure that you will need the original trace to make your pickguards from.
What are you doing for pickups and bridge?

Re: Need Help on a T-27 Build
You maybe right, I think I will sit down some day and place a clean sheet of paper over the complete face of the guitar and then hand rub the outlines of the cut outs and screw mounting holes and get some sort of palace to start. From there I can look at some picture of the pick guard details and try and sketch out a true to size and as close as possible pick guard. I plan of making a pick guard out of some white ash to match the body that I just finished (a little darker) stripping to raw wood and re-stained with some Golden Oak stain (picture). Will finish out whit some clear lacquer.
Still need a neck so will need all the help I can find.
Thank you for your reply
Cheers

Looks good so far. I would help more, but I don’t have this model.
The pickguard you’re describing sounds like it will be top notch. Never saw one of these with a white or lighter color pickguard.
I have a t40 I put a tortoise shell pickguard on that looks cool as well. Nice to see something other that the typical black.

Re: Need Help on a T-27 Build
Hi, well 23 fret is what they used. Are the the 24.75 scale? Was going to order a 24.75 scale on eBay but if yours usable I would consider one or two. I believe the heel should be 2"-13/16" x 2"-3/16.
Any photos?
Thanks

Re: Need Help on a T-27 Build
All done, been playing it for a few days now and it sounds and feels fine.Had a problem with a tone pot but with a replacement worked out fine.
The neck (not a T-27 but the same thing) is very narrow but feels good. Still need to find some knobs but for now its fine.(thanks Miles )

UPDATED:
I decided to change out the black pick guard for the wooden one I had made, complements the ash body much better.

Looks Amazing.
I like both pickguards. But I think I give the nod to the black one. I’ve used tortis shell pickguards on these guitars that I also think look nice.
