Issue with KB300 Tweeters

Post by velocity_kendall » Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:18 pm

Hi there,

Just received a KB300 with a tweeter issue.

Both were crossed over with what looks like a pair of ceramic wirewound resistors, both of which had snapped off at the bases.

I've no idea what the values of these are, just the markings FB2 SAB. Anyone any ideas what they are? or what i could replace them with?

Many thanks in advance.

With my KB300-BW (Black Widow speaker), a 1983 model (no XLR input), the tweeters are just wired in parallel with the bass speaker. The sound is somewhat tinny. Either adding reverb or pulling the gain pot (which switched to higher sensitivity and inexplicably adds a frequency correction element) improves the result. It would be interesting which models actually have the resistors you are talking about. My guess is that they would be intended more for dampening resonances in the frequency response than for lowering the volume.
