KB-300 overheats

Post by Paul Perkins » Sat Mar 14, 2020 6:01 pm

My KB-300 just started acting up, very low volume, seems like no volume unless turning up the reverb knobs, then after a short time of attempting to play my keyboard through it, it overheats and shuts down. The back of the panel gets really hot, and I pulled the amp out to look for anything obvious, nothing visably wrong, but some discoloration of metal where the 4 metal devices are mounted, and seems like maybe heat radiating more from one of those 4 more than the others. Appreciate any help. I know how to use an ohm meter and a soldering gun, but otherwise electronically illiterate.

Check the speaker, is it bound up?

Overheating usually means trouble in the output stages, could be simply bias related but could be other issues.

I really suggest taking it to a competent amp tech.
