KB100 no sound

Post by OldSchoolSC » Thu Mar 28, 2019 4:38 pm

Greetings all. Picked up this KB100 today at Goodwill for $43. Aesthetically perfect, and powered on at the store. With no way to check whether or not it actually produced sound, I bought it. Got it home to test it, and lo and behold...no sound from any channel when connected to my Roland keyboard. Amp/powerhead gets rather warm (actually warms up the metal part of the instrument cable connector itself when plugged in, at least on channel 1), and a slight hum from the 15" speaker. Manufacture date/code is LOC-04 (maybe 2004?)

I need y'alls help. Where do I start tracking down the culprit here? I bought it to be an all-purpose amp for my house. Being a drummer, my knowledge is pretty much limited to 'righty-tighty, lefty-loosey' when it comes to taking stuff apart and putting it back together. In short, I don't know that much about electronics, but I'd love to learn! Worst case scenario, I don't mind paying someone a little to get it repaired and working, since I'm only into it for $43 at this point. It gets great reviews as a general workhorse amp, so I'd like to keep it and get it going if I can.

I appreciate y'alls wisdom, and any input you have to offer!

Any competent amp tech can handle this.

As to teaching you basic tool use as well as electronics... Imagine handing your mom a book about flamm-a-diddles and expecting her to learn drumming from that.

Fair enough, Enzo! Hopefully it'll be a simple fix. Thanks.
