DPM3 Se Question...

Post by hall442 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:32 pm

I just got this puppy, surmising it it would need reinitialization.

Found the procedure and followed it.

Does this wipe out the sound memory banks, by chance?

All the banks now show InitP!

Do I still have a problem, or do I just have to find my 20 year old floppies and reinstall sounds? :)

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Probably just have to reload sounds. I'm guessing all of it's memory must be RAM, since they were cleared with the re-initialization. Most synths have ROM and RAM for patches, but I've had some that were all RAM. Not sure if that's the case with the DPM3, but what it sounds like. It might have a "reset to factory" option as well, which will restore the factory patches. I had a Yamaha DX11, all of it's patch memory was RAM, but it had the factory patches stored separately in ROM so that they could be recalled. The DPM3 manual should say if such a thing exists for it.

That's what it was. Found the original metal memory card at the bottom of the box, and reinstalled all the sounds. Works like a champ.

NOW, if I can just find some more of those cards. Kinda worried the floppy drive might not be functional.

Ebay has a fist full of the floppy disks, but NONE of the Ram cards...

Glad you got it worked out. Hopefully you can find some of the memory cards, just have to scour eBay constantly.

I found my ORIGINAL discs (floppies from 1990)!! :) All except #4. lol.

NOW, has anyone every tried to convert the floppy drive on one of these with a USB conversion piece? I see these relatively inexpensively on ebay. it would solve a LOT of issues if I could just plug one of those into the original 3.5 disc space in the DPM3se.

Anyone? :)

Thanks!

I too am curious about this. I have a DPM-3 from late 89', a DPM-3SE from '92, and a DPM-4 also. This floppy drive emulator utilizing USB sticks or SDHC memory cards would be a boon. I also have the DPM-SP and a mono DPM-SX. The SP uses a 1.44MB drive, and I have a collection of those. The 720Kb drives, DSDD, from the DPM series, are a bit more rare a bird though. So any in-the-field reports about the efficacy of using one of these emulators with a DPM, and it functioning properly, would be great news!!

This is an old old old discussion .... but did anyone ever have any luck with the floppy emulator for the DPM3se or DPM4? I found an emulator on Ebay specifically set up for the Peavey SP, loaded with samples and all and I'm wondering if that would basically be a plug and play solution for me .... Do you think it would be compatible with the DPM4?

Thanks!

I think the only way is to purchase another unit and then use the two to make one.
