Power Ratings of MAX Series Amps

Post by Dino Boreanaz » Tue Jan 25, 2022 6:39 pm

Hi, I'm new here and considering buying one of the MAX series bass combos. I have a question about their power ratings as I've found what appears to be conflicting information from two different Peavey documents. At first I thought the names of these combos were their power ratings and the brochure seemed to confirm this. But then I read the operating manual and found quite different power ratings for all the amps in this series. Here's what I've found for each model from these two documents:

MAX 100 listed as 100W in the brochure vs. 60 W @ 8 ohms in the manual
MAX 150 listed as 150W in the brochure vs. 120 W @ 4 ohms in the manual
MAX 208 listed as 200W in the brochure vs. 120 W @ 4 ohms in the manual
MAX 250 listed as 250W in the brochure vs. 150 W @ 4 ohms in the manual
MAX 300 listed as 300W in the brochure vs. 200 W @ 3 ohms in the manual

The manual is clear that its power figures are continuous RMS ratings at 1% THD with a 1 kHz sine wave, but the brochure does not provide any details about the conditions for its power ratings. It also seems strange that there are two amps with the same RMS power rating in the manual (the 150 and the 208 are both rated at 120 W @ 4 ohms), but these two amps have different power ratings in the brochure.

Is there a reason for these differences in the power ratings?

Which values should be used as a basis for comparison to combos from other manufacturers?

Thanks for any information you can provide.
