Classic 400 feedback

Post by ricb1869 » Sat Oct 30, 2021 1:49 pm

WORD, recently acquired a CL400.

? is......would it be possible to install a half power switch that would remove 4 or the 8 power tubes reducing the head to 200W?

Thank you, RB

My schematic set is in storage, not handy, you got? I don't know if it is simple or not. Electrically it is nothig, but in practice we have to deal wiyth circuit board trace patterns.

I am not sure what you hope it will accomplish. If you think it will be half as loud, it won't. Unless you want to overdrive th power tubes at lower power, you can simply turn down the master or post control.

Again, if you are not trying to overdrive the power tubes for some effect and then have less volume, try turning down the master or post.

Ya I think I get it and what your saying.

Hey on another note, I also just aquired a VB2. It powers up, ALL tubes light up, OP humms, signal from the tuner out, and the DI (pre selected post DI NO sound).

So NO sound, noise nothing from speakers, tried different cabs, cables etc....

Replaced preamp 12ax7s and the 12aT7 PI Have not pulled chasis yet.

Any pointers?

Thx RB

Like any other amp, start with power supplies. If you don't want to pull the chassis yet - and at 100 pounds, who would? Then pull a power tube and probe the socket for B+ and bias voltages.
