Mini Mega Question

Post by Bassguitarist1985 » Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:28 pm

Hey all!

Really loving my new Mini Mega. Quick question, the headphone jack seems a bit weak for volume output. Specs say min load 8 ohms. Im using Audio Technica ATH-M40FS which has a nominal impedance of 60 ohms. So far been using the head for silent practicing since a 210TVX in a small office would be blowing the doors out, even using the aux in with a Bluetooth transmitter paired to my phone to pipe in the tunes. Just seems like I have to crank past 5 on the dial to get any decent volume.

Bought a Douk Audio U3 headphone amp. Used that to power my studio headphones fed by the headphone out of the Mini Mega and presto, PLENTY of volume and almost no hiss noise. Guess the OP-Amp for the headphones is subpar for studio headphones for driving any decent volume. Lower impedance (aka cheaper) headphones wouldn't be an issue however.

Not the end of the world, obviously its primary purpose is a bass amp not a headphone amp. Still would a more powerful op amp cost that much for given the cost of the amplifier itself I wonder.
