Max 115 120US

Post by sclark » Fri Jan 01, 2021 11:27 am

I have a Max 115 120US amp. After playing around 25 minutes there is no output and I get a clicking noise. If I turn it off for a few minutes the clicking goes away and I have output for another 25 minutes. Any ideas before I tear into it?
Thanks,
Steve

Does anyone have a video or information on how to open the amp to get to the control boards inside?

solution:
replace the TWO load coils on the PCB.
They are fairly simple to replace after removing the chassis (and then removing the PCB from the chassis) from the cabinet.
In the pix attached, I have highlighted the failed load coils.
Although they look different from one another, they are actually identical, but due to heat damage, the outer shell on the one on the right disintegrated. I replaced both which resolved the issue.

Hey.
I have the same problem. I replaced the two coils and still ne signal.
When i turn the amp on i can see smoke coming from one of the two coils.
Any idea if there might be another component causin ge the problem?

I would check D23, 24, 25 & 26 for short circuit.
