Ohm on Peavey 115BX

Post by LowEndArt » Sat Jan 20, 2018 10:29 pm

Hey! :)

I just got an Ampeg SVT-2 head from '94 and I want to plug in my 115BX, with my Ampeg 8x10.

But when I read the specs for the cab, it said that some came also in 8 ohm. And I really don't want to damage the head. But I cannot find out the ohm on my 115... :(

The plate on the back, from what I can tell, doesn't provide that info.

Is there anyone here that might know?

The speaker itself will probably have numbers on it to tell us. Or you can measure the DC resistance of the cab. The resistance will be an ohm or thereabouts lower than the nominal impedance. In other words if it measures 7 ohms or 6 and a half ohms, you have an "8 ohm" cab.

I would guess that your SVT head is at least 4 ohms, so you won't have a problem with the cab unless it's 2 ohms, which I would seriously doubt that it is. That info should be readily found on the head for complete assurance, then you'll know what cabs or cab that you can safely use.
you can't have too much bass
