T-Max Head

Post by petetexas » Sat Apr 18, 2015 8:01 am

Hi,

Now I have had my T-Max Head repaired ( and seems to be working ok ) I have one question.......................

Has anyone run it into 2 Ohms ?

I run it into 4 Ohms normally , was just wondering if I needed a bit more UMPH ! , by adding another 4 Ohm cab

Not just me, the lovely Jo Bench does too, except her 215's are Laney's

Ran the t-max last night at rehearsal for nearly 3 hours ( yes we need 3 hours rehearsal ! ) no problems at all with amp or my wrist after the op !
Now looking at changing my cabs.............. at the moment I use the Pf210 with the Pf115 , because they are fairly compact and light ..
Any suggestions ?
Upgrade the speakers ?

My rules are:
  • More Speakers = More Noise
  • Bigger IS better
  • Horns are best
of course there are always other factors, but I'd say my rig is split about 50/50 bass cabs vs. PA subs.

I personally don't like 10's atall, I had a 4x10, 2x10 and combo 18 and 2x10, I got rid of them all. They didn't sound good, and they tended to blow up too easily. If you want light, go neo, get 4 neo 15's, I don't have that kind of cash, so I have two old Peavey 2x15's and a monster Roland 2x15". The Roland actually see use as my guitar rig, with a solid state bass head, it's quite a crusher

And like I said, horns are best, but they are big and heavy, but by god they are loud.

Hi Hemi,

Ran the T-Max into 2 x 115 cabs at last nights gig ( 1 was the Pf115 and the other was a Unbranded 115 )

T-Max no problems at all , ran for total over 4 hours , running at 4 ohms ( 350W ) what a MASSIVE sound , adjusting tone / sound was easy .

Just bought off ebay a Ampeg B115E , 1x15 cab to go with the Pf115 , untill I can get another decent 115 ( Pf ok , but there are much better Ampeg 115 s).

Thanks Hemi, you have pointed me in the right direction

GREAT

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY :D :D :D :D
Now used the repaired T-Max on five gigs with no cut out problem .
The last two gigs with Ampeg SVT 115 cab and Ampeg B115 cab ( both from e-bay - I have replaced the speakers with Eminence 15 `s ) . What a combination ( good old 80`s sound with the two 115 cabs - Brilliant ! )
I was thinking of getting another two 115 cabs , but the output from th T-Max ( 350W into 4ohms ) is REALLY LOUD . I`ll wait and see if I need them .
In the studio all day next Saturday , so the T-Max will get a full 9/10 hours of running ! :D

Hi ,

T-Max ran without any faults for seven and a half hours in the Studio last Saturday !

The one thing I have not mentioned so far , this could be usefull with other T-Max owners , is that the Fan sounded like a Churchill Tank running

on a gravel road ( not kidding ) when I first bought it .

After looking at the spec`s for the original fan TA300 , I found one ( same size , correct voltage , and almost the correct airflow - original was 32 cu ft

per min , and replacement was 25 / 32 cu ft per min - at my local Electronics store MAPLINS code YP46A .

This means that when the amp running , it is almost silent , in fact I have to rely on the lights on the front to tell me its on !

LOVE THIS AMP ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Mine just whirrs quietly.

Unlike the ones on my H&H S-500D which failed to run and toasted the Amp and a 400W 12" driver.

Bad news...................Used the T-Max at an outdoor gig Sunday afternoon , after tuning up , halfway through the soundcheck , she faded in and out again and totally went off . :x
Switched off , and changed over to my standby ampeg PF500 , not very happy with the sound :( , so went back to the T-Max .
Switched her on, and she ran for two and a half hours with no problem :D .....................WHATS UP !
Going to Use my SVT3-Pro for the next few gigs , and only use the T-Max at rehearsals ! cannot trust it again

Outdoors, during soundcheck.
Worst possible time to judge an amp anomaly or failure due to all the shenanigans going on regarding AC power.

Generators, food vendors, dirty extension cords, humidity, stuff you never imagined....

Keep using it and hopefully confidence will return.
