One other odd thing i forgot to mention is that the magnet is bolted to speaker basket and you must have to use a spanner to undo them ..it doesnt have the holes for a allen key

The chalky stuff is strange, but the bolt on is standard BW attachment. That's for easy and quick change of magnet or frame. If you could post a pic of the chalky stuff, might be useful. 
you can't have too much bass
