Possible to use Max 115 as an extension speaker?

Post by velobob1 » Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:19 pm

Question:

Would it be possible to use my Peavey Max 115 as an extension speaker cabinet?
The idea would be to install a Speakon or 1/4" jack on the rear of the cabinet directly wired to the bass speaker terminals.

The amp itself is functional, but at times I would like to use just the speaker as an extension for another bass amp.
Inasmuch as the wiring would be directly to the speaker terminals, I do not think it would adversely impact the electronics of
the chassis, but maybe someone out there can provide an opinion in this regard.
thanks!

Well you absolutely must disconnect the internal amp circuits from the speaker. SO you either need to wire up a plug for the chassis to connect to the new speaker jack, or a big switch or something.

It won't hurt the electronics to have the speaker thumping away while not wired up or turned on. ANy more than it hurts an amp to sit next to the drummer. But it sure will damage an amp to have another amp connected to its output.
