6505mh hum noise

Post by monaoe » Fri Jan 24, 2025 5:09 am

My 6505mh got this low frequency noise after around 30mins of playing, the noise won’t go away even unplug guitar or in standby. But it can disappear again in few seconds or longer. Also brought it to a tech, but couldn’t figure out why.

Getting noise while on standby is unusual. Take it to a different tech.

SW1, the standby switch, switches HT to the screen grids of the amplifier off ... or it should do.
Measure the G2 voltage in standby, I bet it has voltage on it causing the output valves to conduct and carry on producing noises.
Perhaps some wally has put a capacitor across the switch, trying to stop a pop when switched off or something daft, like a faulty 6L6.
