Peavey bravo reverb tank

Post by Discraft » Thu Nov 28, 2024 6:03 pm

I have a peavey bravo, bought second hand, when I riase the reverb after like 5 it starts to make the amp feedback, what can be the problem? The volume isn't that high and even if it was it shouldn't do that.

Hi Discraft,

You may want to start by checking and cleaning your connections to and from the reverb tank and chassis. A loose or dirty connection could be a cause.

It's possible that it may be a 12AX7 pre-amp tube. The send/return signal itself is handled with a 4558 Op-amp chip, but perhaps a microphonic tube is reacting negatively to the reverb signal.

Hope that may be of some help. Enjoy that Bravo. They are my favorite amps.

I'm assuming the tank is mounted in the bottom of the cab. It should have a piece of cardboard under the open side and all that should be in a bag. But even in a bag it needs to float, more or less. If the bag is stretched tight on the tank it can transfer vibration. It also has to be oriented properly. If it's been turned end for end it can make noise.

But most of the reverb problems i've encountered in newly accquired amps have been, as Tonepoet said, dirtly, corroded and loose connectors. To include the connector on the circuit board and the reverb level control pot. Contact spray is your best friend when it comes to amp maintenance
The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.
