Peavey Backstage Plus - Original Speaker?
Peavey Backstage Plus - Original Speaker?
Hi. Just snagged a Backstage Plus this afternoon. Could not pass it up for $75 and 7 minutes from my house! Pots are scratchy, bright knob is touchy and reverb is MIA....but everything else sounds sweet. I was just wondering if the speaker in it is the original stock speaker? If so.....anyone know what type? Thanks!

Well, try a web search for 70777061 and see where it gets you.

That Peavey part number is correct for that amp. Looks like it was made by Rola.
The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

Thanks! Now on to a reverb tank replacement.
Re: Peavey Backstage Plus - Original Speaker?
The Peavey part number was 71011109. Accutronics, Mod and some others will be numbered 8EB2C1B. You have some options. 2 or 3 spring, medium or long decay.
My Backstage Plus is a rescued chassis that I rebuilt and turned into a head cabinet and separate 12" speaker cab. I put a used Accutronics 8EB2C1B in it. Got it cheap because it was miss marked. If I was buying new I would go with Mod tank. Just my personal preference.

Thanks. I plan on taking it apart in the next few days....DeOxit it and check the reverb tank. I appreciate all the help!
Re: Peavey Backstage Plus - Original Speaker?
Clean the reverb tank cable and jacks on both ends. Over time they can get pretty corroded. There could be a broken wire on one of the jacks on the tank. But like DAK said, if the springs are rusted up it might me a lost cause.
There is an OPAMP that drives the reverb. You may need to carefully lift it out, clean the legs and socket the re-install it. Be sure to get it back in the same way it came out,

I took out the tank. One of the tiny black wires was loose. Soldered and all good. Thanks!
Re: Peavey Backstage Plus - Original Speaker?
That's great. I've had reverb problems on several amps over the years but haven't had a tank that wasn't fixable.
I have seen one (not mine) that the springs were so rust that they broke when cleaning was attempted.

No, I'm in Southwest Oklahoma. I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and Old Style was available there but never tried it until I was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. I used to drink it a lot but nowdays just every so often. I drank Heileman's Special Export daily until we couldn't get in this part of the country any more. Like Peavey amps and guitars, I like the old school beers. Love them for what they are, not what you want them to be!
